Visas - general guidelines

Citizens of certain countries (including the United States) do not require a visa to enter Argentina as tourists for a stay of up to three months. The Consulate processes visas for foreign citizens who need them for the activities they will be carrying out in Argentina.

The National Directorate of Migration maintains a list of nationalities and passport types in relation to visa requirements for travel to Argentina. For more information, visit the National Directorate of Migration's visa website.

To find out the visa requirements and to request an appointment for the mandatory visa interview, the applicant should send an email to the Visa Department (visashouston@mrecic.gov.ar), specifying:

  • Full name
  • Nationality
  • Type of passport and country of passport issuance.
  • Type of visa required (e.g. tourist, work, study, etc.).
  • Tentative date of travel to Argentina.
  • Contact information: U.S. address, telephone number and e-mail address.

The Consulate conducts visa interviews by appointment only on business days.

Minimum remaining validity of the passport for entry into Argentina

A foreigner entering Argentina without an Argentine visa is not required to have a minimum remaining validity period of the passport, but only that it is valid. However, some flights to Argentina have stopovers in third countries, and airlines may impose that passports have a minimum remaining validity period according to the requirements of such countries. Therefore, and in order to avoid inconveniences, it is suggested to check with the airline the minimum remaining validity period of the passport required to be able to travel.

Foreigners entering Argentina with an Argentine visa are required to have a minimum remaining validity of 6 months at the time of entry into Argentina.

Electronic Travel Authorisation (AVE)

Foreigners with a valid US visa category B2 / J / B1 / O / P (P1-P2-P3) / E / H-1B in their valid regular passport, and who require a visa to enter Argentina as a tourist, can obtain an AVE online as long as the nationality of said travel document is included in the list of countries eligible for AVE.

For information on the AVE process, visit the AVE website of the National Directorate of Migration.

Electronic Entry Processing (TIE 24H)

If you plan to travel to Argentina for activities other than tourism and are exempt from a tourist visa for Argentina, you must apply for an Electronic Entry Processing (TIE 24H). For more information, visit the TIE 24H website of the National Directorate of Migration.

Refunds

When the applicant pays the visa processing fee, there is no guarantee that the visa will be granted. The Consulate evaluates each application and, if the visa is denied, the fee paid is not refunded to the applicant.

The granting of a visa does not guarantee entry into Argentina. The final decision in this regard rests with the immigration authorities at the border crossing.

Entry with medication

If you plan to enter Argentina with medication, please take into account the relevant recommendations.
