According to the World Tourism Organization (WTO), tourism has become one of the main economic activities and a sector of sustained growth in terms of foreign currency income, stimulus for investments in infrastructure and job creation.
For the Argentine Republic, the income derived from international tourism has positioned this activity as one of the five leading sectors for the export of goods and services.
Therefore, in order to optimize the promotion of Argentina's tourist offer in foreign markets, cooperation mechanisms have been implemented between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Secretariat of Tourism. This cooperation is made operative through the coordination between the National Institute of Tourism Promotion (InProTur), the Directorate of Support to Tourism and Investment Promotion and the Diplomatic and Consular Representations abroad.
Main functions of the Directorate of Tourism Support and Investment Promotion in tourism promotion actions:
. To coordinate with InProTur the actions for the promotion of tourism abroad.
. To coordinate with the Argentine Representations the formulation of tourism promotion actions.
. To support the actions of tourism promotion carried out by the National Institute of
Tourism Promotion (InProTur).
In this line of actions, it is the responsibility of the Representations abroad:
. To prepare reports with the characteristics of the market.
. To establish contact with tour operators.
. Organize seminars and workshops.
. Participate in fairs and exhibitions.
. Establish contact with local specialized journalists.
. Organize business rounds for tour operators.
. Disseminate tourism promotion material.
. Establish contacts with sector associations.
. To inform about publications and journalistic articles from
Argentina.
